Required Materials and Payment

Live auditions will be held on any Friday until 1 May 2011 or on Sundays by appointment at 410 South Michigan, Studio 608, Chicago, Illinois. To schedule an audition please apply online or contact us if you have already submitted your application. Please schedule an early audition. The number of participants is limited.

Application Requirements

Singers wishing to participate in the course should send the following by

1 May 2011:

  • A letter of application or online application
  • A tape, CD or DVD with two songs or arias in English and one of the other languages featured in the course.
  • A recited poem or text in English or your best foreign language (not the same material as above).
  • A letter or recommendation from a teacher or coach.
  • A resume and repertory list.
  • A photograph (any size up to 8x10)
  • A check for $40 made to "Voices of Summer"

Performance Requirements

Four songs or arias in English, Italian, German and French chosen from age- and voice-appropriate repertory which the singer feels is commercially viable, now or later.

One aria or recitative from an opera by Monteverdi (for example):

  • Addio Roma (Ottavia) (soprano or mezzo) (L’Incoronazione di Poppea)
  • Ecco la sconsolata donna (Seneca) (bass or bass-baritone) (L’Incoronazione di Poppea)
  • Possente spirito (Orfeo) (tenor or high baritone) (Orfeo)

Ensemble music might be discussed once the participants are identified.
